Acknowledgement of Country

Sandpit respectfully works across the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung peoples of the Eastern Kulin Nations, as well as the Kaurna and Yugambeh peoples. We recognise and respect their continued cultural, spiritual and technological practices.

We also extend this to all First Nations peoples across the land known as Australia and pay respects to their Ancestors and Elders past and present.

As the very first storytellers and technologists, First Nations peoples possess invaluable knowledge and perspectives that are crucial to the work that we do across both the physical and digital realms.

The Cookie

The Cookie

A giant interactive Fortune Cookie in Adelaide Central Markets powered by an experimental artificial intelligence.

As part of the City of Adelaide’s Createch City Challenge, Sandpit built ‘The Cookie’, exploring the provocation; ‘Can AI predict the future?’

Users are invited to ask a question of The Cookie via a custom web app, and then watch on as it dispenses their fortune by displaying it across a curved, paper-shaped LED screen. Visitors can ask The Cookie whatever they want, as long as they’re prepared for its often unpredictable responses.

The Cookie is powered by open source machine learning model GPT-3, which Sandpit have trained to have its distinctive tone of voice, sitting somewhere between a fortune teller and a sarcastic teenager. It’s a playful experiment designed to engage the general public in conversations around rapidly developing artificial intelligence models and their potential future uses.
