ACMI
Wonderland
THE BRIEF..........................
To create an interactive experience for visitors exploring the Wonderland exhibition at ACMI.

THE PROJECT.........................
Sandpit collaborated with the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) on their new internationally touring Wonderland exhibition.
The well-loved, familiar tale of nonsense and fantasy serves as a vehicle for exploring the evolution of film, and how film has shaped Alice in Wonderland’s many retellings over the decades, with an emphasis on cinematic CGI and special effects.
Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, provided in the form of a map, allows visitors to interact spatially with the exhibition around them.
Audience members are given one of four maps, each representing an archetypal character from the Wonderland cast. Each map offers an entirely unique version of the experience – triggering different video, audio and interactive content.
At the end of the experience the visitor can use a unique identifier on their map to log into a website and discover rich post-experience content.

WHAT'S BEEN SAID..........................
"The magic of Sandpit's Lost Map of Wonderland is how it takes a paper map and imbues it with a digital layer that unlocks secrets and engages the audience with a deeper dive into the Wonderland exhibition - during and after they visit. I love the use of analogue and digital - and this inventiveness and reward for curiosity beautifully and delicately extends the themes explored not only throughout the exhibition design but within the source text itself - Alice in Wonderland."
